HOMEWORK ISSUES ONCE AGAIN . . .
Today, May, 3rd, when checking my Black 1 Chemistry 1 students homework, over 50% of the students had not done the homework . . . the homework that was assigned on Thursday, April 29th. If my calculations are valid, nearly 80 hours passed from the time the assignment was given to the time it was due. Is it too much to complete 27 simple, mole/mass/particle # problems somewhere in an 80 hour time frame?
ANSWER to a QUESTION NEEDED . . . can anyone help . . . please . . .
Why do some students continue the extremely BAD habit of NOT DOING HOMEWORK ?
Can somebody, anybody, anybody at all, answer that question for me?
I simply do not understand.
Have seen IMPROVEMENT on HOMEWORK, but . . .sensing that "TEXTING" during class
is an issue for some students. With hands under desks, in pants pockets, in sweatshirt pockets, with eyes averted downward towards the floor, this teacher wonders if attention is being diverted to text messages and not to the lesson being presented.
You can't learn if you don't pay attention!
If you are not interested in learning the subject, then please do not complain to me about your poor achievement or total lack of success in this class.
. . . HELP ! WHY AREN'T YOU DOING HOMEWORK ? I need to . . .
understand why, in a four day time span (1/22-1/25, 96 hours), that fifteen (15) simple formula writing / nomenclature problems cannot be completed? I am dismayed at the lack of work ethic that 1/3 to 1/2 of my students are exhibiting. As I said in yesterday's blog . . . you cannot learn, you cannot become proficient, if you do not practice what you have been taught.
Homework, homework, homework . . .
where for art thou homework? Hey people . . . do the assigned work. Practice helps solidify your understanding (or allows you to see your lack of understanding) of the concepts taught in class. Barring any innate intelligence or talents, you cannot become "good" at something unless you practice . . . practice . . . practice. DO YOUR HOMEWORK !
Concerned about Increasing Absences . . .
Absences seem to be on the rise . . .
I know several of you were out for "Challenge Days" and illnesses also 'seem' to be on the increase. Whatever the reason for your absence, DO NOT forget to check the "FILE LINKS" on this WebPage for the acitivities you missed . . . DO NOT forget to report to Room 200 the day you return to the building to retrieve any materials you missed. It is your responsiblility.
DO NOT fall behind with your work.
Re-Setting for the New Year . . .
Unfortunately after the break and the "rush" of final exams, I became side-tracked (actually I became de-railed) with entering the Daily Activities and Homework. Please accept my apologies.
I'm 'back on track', beginning today (1/20/10) . . . see "FILES" for necessary information. You'll still need to come to class to pick up any materials.
Too Many Days Out . . .
These last two days (12-2 and 12-3) have been hectic (PLC/SLC/Assessment/Academy Training).
You cooperation, work ethic, and positive classroom behavior has been appreciated. Since I will be back in training on 12-7 and 12-8, my expectation is that you continue to do the "right thing." Thank you in advance.
It wouldn't hurt to start reviewing concepts (notes/HW/old quizzes) for the Final Exam. All Final Exams for my courses will be given after the holiday break.
